Prepping for Your Baby’s Newborn Photo Shoot
Newborn sessions are my joy! Those sweet, brand new little angels are my inspiration and photographing them genuinely makes my heart happy. Hopefully this blog will help you prepare for your baby’s newborn session.
WHEN TO SCHEDULE A SESSION.
The best time to photograph your little one is from day five to fifteen. During this time, newborns tend to be more sleepy and retain that fresh newborn curl. After 15 days, newborns tend to develop things like colic and baby acne. They also tend to be more alert and stay awake longer.
PHOTO IDEAS TO THINK ABOUT.
Do you want only pictures of the newborn? Do you want to include the siblings? Are you interested in your baby being photographed with your immediate family? Do you want some photos with our studio props? Are there specific poses you are looking for? All of these questions will help to build a customized session that is a perfect fit for you.
FEEDING THE BABY.
Please feed your newborn just before coming to the studio or immediately after you arrive. Once you arrive, I will be sure to give you the time to soothe your baby to sleep. Our studio is kept at 80 degrees to ensure that your newborn is warm and comfortable.
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU.
If you are nursing, it’s a great idea to bring bottles of pumped milk. If you are using formula, please bring plenty of bottles & formula. Bring spare outfits for both you and the newborn as they do pee/poop. Accidents happen. Also, bring plenty of diapers and wipes. Bring a pacifier as they help to get babies to sleep and soothe them.
WHAT TO WEAR FOR PARENTS.
Keep it simple. Throw in a little color if you’d like, but skip the busy patterns. For moms, we suggest cotton knit camis and knit tops. These photos are so simple & timeless. Please refrain from logos or artwork that date the photos.
RELAX & ENJOY THE MOMENT.
Keep it simple. Throw in a little color if you’d like, but skip the busy patterns. For moms, we suggest cotton knit As soon as baby is happy and sleepy, we can get started. I will soothe, swaddle, and ensure baby is kept happy. I will only use poses that are safe or will enlist help from one parent. The safety of your newborn is my top priority. If your newborn is really wide awake and does not want to sleep, I will swaddle the baby to get some photos.
Your newborn session will last approximately 2-3 hours in length. Please plan this time into your schedule. This ensures we have enough time to pose and take whatever breaks necessary.
Your images will be ready for delivery within 2-3 weeks.
